Free website migration tool
Free 301 Redirect Map Builder
Match old URLs to new ones with transparent suggestions, review every row, catch loops and chains, then export a redirect CSV or basic server rules.
Files are read in your browser and never uploaded. Suggestions use URL paths and words only, so treat them as a starting point.
What a redirect map is
A redirect map is a list pairing every old URL with the most relevant new URL. It is the core document of a website migration, and it becomes the 301 redirects your developer or host puts in place.
Why 301 redirects matter during migrations
Links, bookmarks and search results point at your old addresses. A permanent 301 redirect sends people and search engines to the new page and tells Google the move is permanent, so signals can consolidate on the new URL.
How this redirect mapping tool works
- Paste or upload your old URLs and new URLs. CSV columns are detected, and you can choose the right one.
- Auto-suggest matches using exact paths, normalised paths, slugs and shared words. Each suggestion shows why it matched.
- Filter to low confidence, unmapped and flagged rows, edit destinations, and mark rows reviewed.
- Export a CSV, or basic Apache or Nginx templates for your developer to review.
Why homepage redirects are a poor fallback
Sending every unmatched URL to the homepage feels tidy, but Google tends to treat irrelevant redirects like a soft 404, and visitors land somewhere unrelated. Pick the closest relevant page, such as a category, or let a genuinely removed page return 404 or 410.
Migration tips
- Crawl the old site and export Search Console pages before launch, so nothing is missed.
- Avoid chains: point old URLs straight to the final destination.
- Update internal links and your XML sitemap to the new URLs rather than relying on redirects.
- Keep redirects in place for at least a year, ideally permanently. Our web design projects include this.
