Are you driving traffic to your website but you’re not converting leads? It’s an issue that a lot of business owners suffer but can be easily improved.
Whether you’re driving paid ads, improving your organic rankings, or promoting through social media, your goal is to convert as many visitors as possible into high-quality leads.
We’ve compiled a quick checklist and detailed how you can improve your conversions and track and monitor your performance.
If you haven’t already set up conversion tracking, we recommend doing this as your first step so you can monitor the results and make data performance decisions on what works best for your website and industry.
1. Showcase Customer Reviews
Potential customers like to see that you’re a trustworthy business, and they want to feel comfortable with their purchasing decisions.
You can achieve this by showcasing your customer reviews (and the more the better).
If you’re using WordPress there are plenty of Plugins that can help with this, and some can schema markup your website for Google ratings.
Review Bundle WordPress Plugin
I highly recommend Business Review Bundle for WordPress.
This plugin gives you multiple display options, including:
Floating review badge
Overview of your reviews across multiple platforms
Scrolling customer reviews
Adding different ways customers can interpret your service and customer support can increase leads and sales.
2. Use Real Photos
Photos are a great way to build trust on your website (if done correctly).
We always recommend our clients when they have stock images to invest in a photographer… add real photos of your team, your office, and products/services.
When your prospects see who they’re dealing with, what your business looks like, and that you’re a real business it leads to more confidence and trust in your company.
If you’re in need of updating your site photos, contact Britt Spring Photography for commercial and personal branding headshots and photography.
3. Enhance Your Call-to-Action
Adding a strong Call-to-Action (CTA) to your website can have the biggest effect on your conversion rate.
Review how customers are currently contacting you. Is it easy for them? Do they have to click on another page? Is the wording incentivising?
Our recommendations include:
- Use pop-up forms where possible and ensure they’re mobile-friendly
- Add a call to action on the footer of your page
- Add contact details to all pages
Here are some of the strongest CTA’s that we’ve seen across the web:
Evernote: Registration Form
HeyDay: Sign Up and Save
OfficeVibe: Subscribe
4. Simplify Your Forms
Decreasing the time it takes to fill out your forms reduces friction in the early contact stages. If your forms are too long, your customers won’t want to fill them out.
We recommend reducing your form fields and making it easier for your customers to contact you.
Be sure to run tests and compare conversion rates using Google Analytics that you set up earlier.
5. Improve Site Speed
Did you know when your website loads from 1 second to 3 seconds, your bounce rate increases by 32%? Every extra second your website takes to load, the higher chance you have of losing a potential customer.
Read our latest blog on improving your site speed performance to increase your website time as much as possible.
Test your site speed using www.gtmetrix.com to see how long it takes to load – if you want to test from Australia, be sure to register a free account.
6. Value Propositions
Communicating your value propositions on your landing pages can have a significant boost in online conversions.
Be sure to write with your customers in mind and ask yourself the following questions:
- What are my customer’s pain points?
- What are their goals?
- What motivates them?
If you’re not sure what these are, you may need to do some diving online to find these answers. Read online forums, check your competitor’s reviews, and look for the negatives.
Gather as much information as possible and convey how your product or service will solve their problems.
Content marketing has a significant impact on your website’s performance, not just for your users but for Google rankings as well.
7. Live Chat Software
Live Chats are a great way to communicate with your clients. It gives you the opportunity to answer any burning questions they may have (instead of them leaving to find them elsewhere).
Below are our suggestions for Live Chat software:
- https://www.livechat.com/ – From $16/mth per agent
- https://www.intercom.com/live-chat – From $74/mth
- https://livechatmonitoring.com/ – From $149/mth
8. Click-to-Call Button
Over 60% of website visits now occur on a mobile device, why not make it easy them to call you?
There’s a quick and easy way to add a call button on your website (like on ours) and that’s through the Call Now Button plugin.
It’s free and easy to set up and makes it incredibly easy for your customers to give you a call.
9. Mobile Responsiveness
With over 60% of your site visitors using mobile devices, it makes sense to ensure your website is mobile-friendly.
Review your mobile website for the following:
- It’s responsive and doesn’t scroll horizontally
- Your text is easy to read
- It loads quickly
- Buttons and links are easy to click and spaced correctly
- Your navigation is easy to access
- Limit form fields and input text
Use the Mobile-Friendly test by Google to see how your website ranks for mobile devices. Check all your landing pages, and see how it is easy it is to use.
10. Heatmap and Behaviour Tracking
Did you know you can see how users interact with your website? How do they move their mouse and what content they’re reading?
We recommend setting up Hotjar on your website. This will allow you to track how your site visitors are using your website and learn when and where they’re leaving.
Hotjar has a free option with 35 daily sessions it can track and can scale up to $79/mth with 500 daily sessions.
11. A/B Split Testing
A/B split testing is the experimentation process of randomly directing traffic to different versions of your website to learn which converts the best.
You can do this for free using Google Optimize and they’ve made it easy to set up and start testing right away. You will need Google Analytics and Conversion Tracking installed to get accurate data.
