What this heading checker does
Give it a page address and it reads the H1 to H6 elements in document order, shows them as an indented tree with counts, and flags practical issues: no H1, multiple H1s, empty headings, skipped levels and heavily repeated heading text. There is also a pasted HTML tab for pages that block automated fetching.
How to use it
- Paste the page address and choose Check headings.
- Read the tree from the top: the first heading is usually the H1.
- Work through the findings, fixing the ones marked as worth fixing first.
- Copy the results or download a CSV if you are reporting to a developer.
Tips and common mistakes
Use headings for structure, not size
If a heading is only there to make text bigger, use styling instead. A logical outline helps readers skim and helps search engines understand what each section covers.
Do not overcorrect
Multiple H1s are not a catastrophe, and a repeated heading across a row of cards is normal. Fix empty headings and big level jumps first, then judge the rest in context.
